Painter Markus Heikkerö studies in his highly surrealistic and imaginative works the essence of life and the world.

Photographer Pekka Luukkola explores new ways of depicting nature and landscape especially by examining the passage of time in photography. In Luukkola´s photographs fire is often seminal element in nature or landscape. Luukkola uses fire to express movement, the passage of time and the presence of humans without a visible, recognisable form. Luukkola is one of the 2011 Ars Fennica nominees and winner of the 2008 Fotofinlandia competition.

Photographer Susanna Majuri is known for magical images, where water is often a key element. Another recurrent theme in her works is the north both as a landscape and as a state of mind. Her pictures depict a world of surrealism, dreams and the subconscious. She is a member of the internationally active Helsinki School artist group.

Stiina Saaristo works with pencil and coloured pencil. She uses herself as a model in her grotesque and exaggerative pictures. She depicts women´s life, their insecurities, fears and inadequasies in relation to their expectations of life and requirements set by the society. Emphatic humor is typical for her works.

Ceramics is the central vehicle of expression for sculptor Kim Simonsson. Simonsson uses clay and glass to model his figures, materials that are still rarely used in contemporary sculpture. Simonsson's nearly life-sized figurative sculptures of children and animals have been influenced by the imagery and visual idiom of Japanese manga comics. Simonsson works at the Arabia Art Department Society in Helsinki. Simonsson received the Young Artist of the Year award in 2004.

The art of painter Kristiina Uusitalo transforms the basic elements of nature and landscape, such as light, water and trees, into the language of the painting. The works present landscape and nature abstracted into pure experiences instead of being depictions of actual places. Her works describe a vision-like experience. She paints on aluminium sheets. The light-reflecting material she uses change in appearance with the slightest movement of the observer. In 2008 she was awarded the State Prize for the Visual Arts.
