In recent years, my work has been preoccupied with figurative subjects, ranging from portraits and architectural interiors to landscapes. It was therefore refreshing to turn my attention to more subconscious material, towards something that is not part of our typical everyday imagery.

My latest work creates links with my illusory paintings from the 1990s, which featured abundances of mass reminiscent of human bodies. You could perhaps describe my works as organic abstractions with figurative references.

I have approached my chosen themes through sketching; by drawing, photographing and sculpting three-dimensional shapes. This has had the effect of bringing the paintings´ strong, silhouette-like surfaces into dialogue with their sculptural shapes.

My approach to the subjects and the painting process has been led by my intuition and my stream of consciousness. Ultimately, this was a highly personal process - a journey of discovery into my own mind and the possibilities of painting as a medium.
