Perhaps one dominant aspect pervading my new series of paintings is, for example, the fact that the landscape or portrait motif has shifted away from a traditional landscape or portrait painting towards some kind of transitional abstract, performance, minimalist and stylised stage. Through the use of colours, forms and layout, I have aspired to capture some kind of atavistic, universal moment that is instantly recognisable, not merely visually, but also through spontaneous emotion.
Overall, however, each painting has its own story. The background of each painting echoes its own distinct source of inspiration: various natural elements recur in the form of a human or animal guise, and in their interrelationships. Awake or in a dream, the water, shorelines and all the landscape components form bridges to the collective memory.
