Antti Tanttu 12.1. - 3.2. 2008Antti Tanttu (b. 1963), Professor of Printmaking at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts, is known for his woodcuts. Tanttu works by engraving an image onto wood, which he then prints onto Japanese paper and glues onto painted or gold-leafed sheets of MDF. His earlier works have tended to balance on the boundary between the abstract and the figurative. In the new works, the figures are given increased prominence. In essence, Tanttu’s works deal with the expression of private or shared experiences of existence. In 2006, Tanttu was recognised with the Kalevala Society’s inaugural Akseli Gallen-Kallela award.
