Anne Tompuri 19.9.-13.10. 2002
Emotion has always held great sway in Anne Tompuri's paintings. The colour palette of her paintings that plumb the depths of the soul and existential angst but also delve into light has always been very sparse. The deep black characteristic of Tompuri's work - even her trademark - is accompanied by white and pale yellow, with a desolate, agonising red making only fleeting appearances. The austere colour scale highlights the condensed thoughts and sub-conscious of the artist's inner world whilst the images, mere suggestions, hark back to the margins of remembrance and oblivion. Despite the highly personal nature of Anne Tompuri's work, there has been a certain distance in her approach, at times sacredness so monumental that it leaves behind the artist's persona and advances towards anonymity, all the way to universal devotional imageryEeva-Kaisa Hakulinen
