Marja Söderlund 21.8.-7.9. 2003You are here
The views are within the pictures, but not exclusively there.
The pictures in the exhibition are spaces rebuilt from pieces: places where you can enter the picture, stumble. The horizon rotates all around but up turns out to be down and forwards can be through. The perspective is a kind of travel instruction. “You are here” is the viewer’s location, like looking for a place on a map. Yet it is possible to be somewhere else at the same time. Details may lead astray, somewhere else and to the edge.
If only it were possible to see around the corner already, to notice what is in between. You could get lost, disappear and be found again, counting on time. You could get immersed in a place or just stay in the expanding space of the picture, amongst the cardboard stage set.
